While the technology is ever changing, with my 20 plus years in the IT industry, I always believe that the core function of IT, is to first be a service organization. We have a responsibility to serve our clients and the business, by being responsive to the needs of the business and implementing technology and policies that line up with the business direction and purpose.


I also believe that IT exists to empower the business and to make things easier not more difficult. This is done by creatively solving businesses challenges that lead to growth and by providing a source of training and education to the end users. This way we all can accomplish more.


I have done many things over my career from – being number 9 hired at a Dot-Com and growing the infrastructure from three servers to over 250 servers in three datacenters; along with building a 5-person IT department to support the growth. To – designing and managing a 24/7 mission critical operation built on IIS and SQL Server with an independent disaster recovery site.


The places I enjoyed contributing the most has been the small to medium sized organization. That is because you have the bring it each and every day and you can see the fruits of your labor. You have the feeling you are a part of something larger than yourself and not just a cog in the machine. You never stop learning and it forces you to try harder and do more.


While I have extensive professional experience with the Microsoft Windows platform. My pursuit of knowledge also exists outside of the workplace. I host several websites, using my own hardware utilizing the WordPress CMS using Apache and MySQL services.


I also enjoy working with technologies like the Arduino and MicroChip PIC processors. Currently I am experimenting with distributed computing and machine learning because I am intruded by big data and the possibilities of distributed computing to solve problems.

Primary Job Functions:

  • Application monitoring – including writing PowerShell and Python scripts that would monitor application specific metrics and alerts.

  • Used VMware GSX server for server consolidation. Saved ChemWare, Inc. over $9,000 by creating machines with multiple environments instead of purchasing new equipment.
  • Designed and implemented the current Windows network infrastructure including fourteen servers operating either Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2003 Server, 50 client PCs, five network printers, two remote offices over VPN, and MS Exchange.
  • Upgraded the Windows NT 4.0 Domain to Windows 2000 Active Directory, including upgrading from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000.

Key Projects and Accomplishments:

  • Maintained 99.8% uptime by implementing a preventive maintenance schedule, along with server monitoring and an on call rotation schedule.
  • Designed and installed two production sites that included over 100 x86 based servers running Windows OS. The main facility was co-located and housed 80 production servers and included a clustered MS-SQL server on the backend connected to a SAN storage solution which was used to store the Database files and various images. The front-end consisted of eight web servers running MS IIS connected to a Cisco LocalDirector for load balancing. Twenty servers were later installed in another co-location to server as a fail-over solution.
  • Designed and installed the office network that supported 120 end users and 140 workstations. The main network was designed around two Iron Foundry Switches connected to two routers which provided connectivity to both production sites and to the corporate office at Goto.com. Email was run on MS Exchange 5.5.
  • Provided mobile users with RAS and VPN connectivity.
  • After the Goto.com acquisition, my primary role was to implement the Goto.com corporate policies and procedures into our infrastructure, which included additional security models, TCP/IP reassignments, and DNS and DHCP changes.
  • Developed server documentation including setup and install procedures and TCP/IP assignments. Set in place various company wide security, access, backup and audit procedures and produced a Process Control Manual.
  • Installed Linux for testing new web technologies.
  • Oversaw the office move from one location to another. Selected and organized several vendors in order to prepare the new office space.

Primary Job Functions:

  • Provided hardware and software troubleshooting and support to approximately 600 users/PCs.
  • Installed, configured, troubleshot and installed various security patches and fixes for Windows NT.
  • Provided new user training and system usage guidelines.
  • Ensured that the Token Ring and Ethernet networks were operational and performed software and hardware upgrades to network. The network consisted of TCP/IP, IPX, and SNA protocols. Used the Fluke Network Sniffer to track down various network related problems.

  • Served as the technical lead to the Level I support on mass hardware and software upgrades during the Cigna conversion. Developed the Master Ghost image for use during this process.
