Where the Day Ends

I have always liked photographs where the main subject isn’t necessarily the biggest thing in the frame.
What caught my attention here was the small house sitting along the water with this enormous sky behind it. The sunset was obviously beautiful, but the house is really what made me stop. It gives the whole scene a sense of scale. There is all of this sky, water, and open space, and then this one little structure sitting there in the middle of it.
I also like that there really isn’t much going on in the photograph. Your eye can move around without being told exactly where to look. You notice the orange cloud first, then the cooler blue sky, the reflection across the water, and eventually the house.
That is probably what I like most about photography. Sometimes it isn’t about finding something spectacular. It is just noticing something that makes you stop for a moment and look a little longer.
