Home 9 The Art of Technology 9 Model Train Projects: Introducing the LumiEase Hub

The goal of the LumiEase Hub is simple: to make it easy for anyone to add LED lighting and effects to their train . For a long time, I’ve been designing modular systems for my own use. But when you’re creating something for yourself, it’s easy to leave out the details. After all, I made it, so I know how to use it. That approach works for personal projects, but as I continued refining these systems, I realized that not everyone wants to deal with complex setups.

There’s a lot to be said for making things plug-and-play. Not everyone enjoys the intricate details of electronics like I do, and that’s exactly why the LumiEase Hub was born. I wanted to develop something that would be accessible to those who aren’t technically inclined—something easy, intuitive, and reliable.

The project has come a long way since I first started. What began as a Basic Light Hub has evolved into the LumiEase Hub, designed specifically to make adding lights and lighting effects a breeze for non-technical users.

Here’s a look at one of the early iterations of the PCB, though it’s since evolved into a 12-port version. I’m currently waiting on the prototype to arrive, and it will feature a case for easy mounting. Each of the 12 ports provides 5V power, so you can plug in LEDs directly, without needing to worry about resistors—each LED comes with one pre-installed, further simplifying the process.

The LumiEase Hub is modular, too. For example, a dimming module is currently in development, which will allow individual control over the brightness of up to four LEDs. Effects modules will work the same way—simply plug them in and you’re ready to go.

This project is very much a work in progress. It serves as a reminder that nothing happens overnight. It’s all about evolving, iterating, and continuously improving. I’m excited to see where the LumiEase Hub will go next, and I’m eager to share it with others who are passionate about lighting up their models, without the hassle of complicated setups.
